Back to The Basics: Eyeshadow/Eyelid Primer

Welcome back!
If you're lucky enough to be friends with me on Facebook (kidding!) then you may have seen my picture of some shadows I swatched with and without a primer. I decided to do a short post about it because a lot of people don't use them. My thoughts: if you use eyeshadow and have issues with creasing and color pay off (aka the vibrancy of your shadows) USE A PRIMER!!!

What is a primer?
In a nutshell, primer helps your shadows stick to your eyelid.

What does a primer do?
It helps prevent creasing and fading throughout the day. It can also make your shadows more true to color. Some primers (if they're tinted) can even out the discoloration on your lids.

What primer did I use in the photos?
ELF Eyelid Primer. For $1! Available at Target, Walmart, or at www.eyeslipsface.com

What's the difference between high end and drugstore primers?
I've tried a variety of primers (too many to list) and I will say that my favorite high end is Urban Decay Primer Potion. And of course my favorite drug store is the ELF one! It's cheap and it works. Can't beat it for the price.

How do I use a primer?
Apply a small amount in the center of your lid and gently dab it over your entire lid and your crease. You can go up to your brow bone if you wish. I typically will go up to my brow bone because I apply a highlight under my brow and want that baby to last all day!

Here's the shadows I swatched without a flash...

Here they are with a flash...

You'll notice the shadows are more vibrant and not as patchy when they're over a primer. Pretty cool, right?

Here are the shadows I used if anyone is interested. They're all ELF Studio shadows. I just so happened to come across these last night in my makeup stash.

From left to right:
Saddle, Wild Wheat, Coffee Bean, and Pebble

Well that's it! I hope you found this helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions. What's your favorite primer?

Until next time...
Xoxo,
Adela

Get Ready With Me: Sick, but you'd never know it!

Welcome back! We've all had days when we're feeling under the weather and would rather stay in bed all day. Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow us to do so. I had one of these days this past weekend... it was Jr. Prom night for my nephew which means, photos with Auntie (he loved it, trust me)  Here are my tips and tricks on how to look your best when you're feeling your worst.  Let's get started... First things first, start with a clean face. Then, moisturize and prime your skin. I used a heavier moisturizer under primer because my skin tends to get very dry when I'm not feeling well.  An oldie but goodie is Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer. This is about $5 at Target or drugstores. Concealing is always important. Especially when you're sick. I applied Age Rewind under my eyes and Dream Lumi around my nose to hide extra redness. I blended them in with my fingers using light patting motions.   I evened out my complexion with two fairly recent products...

Adela's at home pedicure

Welcome back! Spring is officially here which means warmer weather and cute sandals! It's time to get those tootsies back in shape! Now I can admit, a professional pedicure can be nice. But if you are short on time and want to save some cash why not do it at home? Today I'll share my at home pedicure routine. I do this year round (Once a month in the winter. Twice a month in the spring/summer). Let's get started... Here are the supplies you'll need: A towel Nail Polish remover Cotton balls Sugar scrub Bath Salts  Lotion Manicure kit Cuticle oil Cuticle remover  Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle Nail file Buffer Pumice stone  Correcting pen Orange stick Clippers Cuticle clippers Base coat Top coat Polish of your choice  Large bowl to soak your feet I know that seems like a lot, you probably already have these items. If not, you can find most of them at your local dollar store.  Step 1. Remove old polish. This is the polish remover I use. Any brand will work. Step...

I went shopping!

Hello again, Let's be honest, we all love to see what others buy. I know I do! I've picked up some new beauty products and I thought I'd share them with you. This is several trips/purchases put together in one post. Grab a snack and some iced tea. It's going to be a long one!  Here are the goods. Some are repurchases, some are new. I can't wait to dig into these babies! I'll say a bit about each product.  Covergirl Clump Crusher- I've been a long time fan of Covergirl mascaras. Clump Crusher has made it's way into my favorite spot. It has a plastic brush with a curve to it so it easily reaches all of the lashes. As the name implies it doesn't clump AT ALL! I didn't believe it till I tried it and now I alway have a tube of this. I stock up when it's buy one get one 50% off.  I ordered the next three products off Hautelook a few weeks ago. This is the foundation I always use. It's several shades swirled together as a liquid then baked on a ...
