Adela's Favorites: Hair Products and Hair Tips

Hello and Welcome Back!

I recently asked what kind of post you'd like to see next. My friends Emily and Kelly requested Hair Products and Hair Tips. Thank you, Ladies for the great suggestion. I decided to combine them into one post.

Today I'll be sharing my favorite hair products. These are tried and true products that I have repurchased time and time again and would recommend to anyone!

First of all I want to tell you about my hair~
It is color treated, thick, tends to be frizzy, and MUST be heat styled. Unless I want to look like I stuck my finger in a light socket. So cute, right?!? NO!
I don't wash my hair every day. I go every other day or maybe even two days between washes depending on what I've been doing and the products I've been using.
Newsflash people: You aren't supposed to wash your hair everyday!

Shampoo and Conditioner~
I have tried SO many over the years. I regularly switch up brands. I go for products that are sulfate free, are for color treated hair, or help with frizz control. I find that when I use a sulfate free product my hair isn't as frizzy. Maybe that's just me, but it works, so I stick to it! Currently I am using Herbal Essences Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner. I bought this because I used to use this all the time in high-school. It still smells amazing! and I really like the way my hair styles after using it. I also have L'Oreal Ever Pure Shampoo and Conditioner. I really like this line. The products smell great, are affordable, and available at any drugstore.

Dry Shampoo~
Dry shampoo is what I use between washes. My favorite at the moment is Herbal Essences Color Me Happy. It smells just like the shampoo! The trick to using a dry shampoo is giving it time to absorb all of the excess oil in your hair. I will brush my hair, section it into 1 or 2 inch sections and spray all over the crown and sides of my head. Allow that to sit while you get ready. Don't be scared if you get a white cast from the product (We'll deal with that in a minute) When you're finished getting ready, massage the dry shampoo into your scalp/hair. Do this like you're washing your hair. This will get rid of any excess product and give body to your hair. Then style as usual. Ta-dah! all done!

How I style my hair~
As most of you know, I have an A-line cut right now. If you haven't noticed, I'll insert a photo for your viewing pleasure.

Beautiful isn't it? Haha!
My hair is pretty easy to style. I always apply a heat protectant before blow drying. Either Pantene BB Cream, L'Oreal Sleek It Frizz Vanisher Cream, or L'Oreal Sleek It Iron Spray.

Tools~
I use a flat brush (pictured below). As I'm blow drying my hair I brush the hair in an upwards motion to help build volume. If you have a problem blow drying your hair, make sure you are sectioning it off. This will help make it dry faster and prevents heat damage.

Once my hair is completely dry, I section my hair again before flat ironing. I take about 1 inch sections to get my hair as smooth as possible. Starting from the bottom (closest to my neck) and working my way up. I try to straighten in one sweep if possible, again to prevent heat damage. When I get to the top of my head I will straighten them straight up from the root. That helps give me extra volume. I have two flat irons : a Mini by Conair and a 1 inch from Hot Tools. I am using the mini right now because the back of my hair is so short. It makes it easier to get those unruly pieces.

I do back comb  or "tease" my hair to give it extra volume. I found this great little brush for that. It doesn't damage my hair like using a comb will. After I get the height (or heigh-TH as some people say. Am I weird or does that bother you too?) I want I will smooth out the teased area with a regular comb.

Styling Products~
As far as styling products go, I use a few on most days. Although, if you looked under my sink, you'd beg to differ. To smooth out any fly aways/frizz, I use Suave Professional Anti-Frizz Cream. I used a pea sized amount.

To hold my style in place I use TRESemme Tres Two Hairspray. This is hands down the BEST hairspray I've ever used. High end included. It's cheap, it comes in this huge bottle and travel sizes, it holds your style without being stuff or tacky, and it resists humidity (Trust me, I've used in in Texas and New Orleans!)

And that's it! I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful.
Keep in mind that I haven't always had short hair. I'm sure I can use a model (any takers?) with long hair if you're interested in how I curl or style longer hair.

Until next time...
Xoxo,
Adela

Get Ready With Me: Sick, but you'd never know it!

Welcome back! We've all had days when we're feeling under the weather and would rather stay in bed all day. Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow us to do so. I had one of these days this past weekend... it was Jr. Prom night for my nephew which means, photos with Auntie (he loved it, trust me)  Here are my tips and tricks on how to look your best when you're feeling your worst.  Let's get started... First things first, start with a clean face. Then, moisturize and prime your skin. I used a heavier moisturizer under primer because my skin tends to get very dry when I'm not feeling well.  An oldie but goodie is Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer. This is about $5 at Target or drugstores. Concealing is always important. Especially when you're sick. I applied Age Rewind under my eyes and Dream Lumi around my nose to hide extra redness. I blended them in with my fingers using light patting motions.   I evened out my complexion with two fairly recent products...

Adela's at home pedicure

Welcome back! Spring is officially here which means warmer weather and cute sandals! It's time to get those tootsies back in shape! Now I can admit, a professional pedicure can be nice. But if you are short on time and want to save some cash why not do it at home? Today I'll share my at home pedicure routine. I do this year round (Once a month in the winter. Twice a month in the spring/summer). Let's get started... Here are the supplies you'll need: A towel Nail Polish remover Cotton balls Sugar scrub Bath Salts  Lotion Manicure kit Cuticle oil Cuticle remover  Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle Nail file Buffer Pumice stone  Correcting pen Orange stick Clippers Cuticle clippers Base coat Top coat Polish of your choice  Large bowl to soak your feet I know that seems like a lot, you probably already have these items. If not, you can find most of them at your local dollar store.  Step 1. Remove old polish. This is the polish remover I use. Any brand will work. Step...

I went shopping!

Hello again, Let's be honest, we all love to see what others buy. I know I do! I've picked up some new beauty products and I thought I'd share them with you. This is several trips/purchases put together in one post. Grab a snack and some iced tea. It's going to be a long one!  Here are the goods. Some are repurchases, some are new. I can't wait to dig into these babies! I'll say a bit about each product.  Covergirl Clump Crusher- I've been a long time fan of Covergirl mascaras. Clump Crusher has made it's way into my favorite spot. It has a plastic brush with a curve to it so it easily reaches all of the lashes. As the name implies it doesn't clump AT ALL! I didn't believe it till I tried it and now I alway have a tube of this. I stock up when it's buy one get one 50% off.  I ordered the next three products off Hautelook a few weeks ago. This is the foundation I always use. It's several shades swirled together as a liquid then baked on a ...
