Ahoy Matey!!!
Or whatever pirates say. Haha! We are kicking off the Halloween Tutorials today with my "Pretty Pirate". I decided it was best to go for looks that are easy to recreate and hopefully you don't have to go out and buy a bunch of extra products. All of the products that I used will be listed below.
For this look, you will need:
Matte Black Eyeshadow
Matte Red Shadow (or whatever color your costume is)
Gold Shadow
Gold Highlighter
Dramatic Black Lashes
Lash Glue
NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean
Red Lipstick (or whatever color you want for your costume is)
Scarf- To go on your head)
This is the final look...
I went with red on the lid because most of the Pirate costumes I see have red in them. If yours doesn't, then switch your lid color out for the color in your costume. Also, as I said in the video... a girlfriend is dressing up as a pirate family. So if you have little boy pirates in your crew then just use your black liner to make an eye patch and maybe even a scruffy beard or mustache for them!
Going back to the black shadow I re-applied the black shadow to the outer corner. I also brought the black shadow all the way into the inner corner. Notice how I stopped the shadow just before the inner corner? That is because I wanted space to apply my gold shadow. If you don't want to add the gold shadow then you can bring the black all the way in to the inner corner or stop it and leave that space empty.
I took a really reflective gold shadow on a small detail brush that I damped with MAC Fix+ and applied it to the inner corner. I really took time to apply a good amount of this shadow to the area. I wanted this to catch the light and add some shine to our otherwise matte eye.
Next we remove the tape and grab out black pencil. You can use any pencil you have for this. I chose this one because it's really pigmented and blends easily.
I lined my lower lash line and waterline with this pencil and smudged it out using a small brush and the matte black shadow. I also went in with the red shadow and smudged that under the black just slightly but I forgot to take a photo of that.
I lined my upper lash line with a black gel liner and applied one false lash to this eye. These lashes are really affordable (like, $1!) I bought a ton of them for tutorials. I won't say where I got them because the seller rubbed me the wrong way so just find whatever style of lashes you like. I recommend picking something dramatic like this to make this eye stand out even more.
I traced a black circle around my brow and followed my eye socket. Now that I look at the photo I should have gone a it lower with the line but I think my wonky line gave it character. Then fill it in with the pencil and draw on your strings. I didn't set mine with black shadow because I was taking this off as soon as I finished taking these pics but if you are doing this to wear for a few hours then I highly suggest pressing black shadow into you lid, crease, and under eye to set it. Because it's such a creamy pencil, it will smudge on you if it's not set.
I took a scarf I already owned and tied it on the back of my head to finish the look. My hair was curled from earlier in the day but I think it went perfect with the scarf. It would also be cute to do some kind of faux hawk or little braids with your hair but I'm not that good with hair so I just kept mine like this.
And we are done!

I started this look with the makeup that I was wearing that day. It was minimal makeup but I figured since Halloween is on a Monday this year, most of you will have makeup on before you get dressed up.
So grab your hooks, swords, gold and lets go!
Before I started, I applied some clear tape to my eye. This will help achieve that dramatic edge to the look. One thing I wanted to tell you is that these shadows get EVERYWHERE. So you might want to finish your eye shadow and then apply foundation before you draw on your eye patch. That way any black shadow that falls on your face won't ruin your makeup. Back to the shadows, Using a rounded crease brush I apply black shadow into the outer corner and start bringing it into the crease. Don't worry about how patchy the shadow is right now because we will fix that in a minute.
Using a flat shadow brush I pat the red shadow onto the lid. I slightly overlap the black shadow with the red. Keep applying the shadow till you get the intensity you want.
Now we are going to take a fluffy brush with nothing on it and blend out the black line. If you are having a hard time getting your shadow to blend then apply a small amount of nude shadow or translucent face powder to your brush before using this. I wanted mine to be kind of a messy "Jack Sparrow-Esque" look so I kept the black a bit choppy.

For lips I chose a matte red to play off the mate eye. This is a matte lip color from elf in the shade Wine. I absolutely LOVE this color. This is my favorite red lipstick! and even though it's matte, it's very comfortable.
I also applied a TON of gold highlighter to my cheek. I mean, why can't a pirate be a glam pirate?? haha! So get your booty's (get it??) worth of highlighter!
I took a scarf I already owned and tied it on the back of my head to finish the look. My hair was curled from earlier in the day but I think it went perfect with the scarf. And one final picture without the scarf. Just incase you didn't want to include that in your look. Who would have ever thought that red eye shadow would look so pretty?!?
I really enjoyed doing this look for you. I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and that it was easy for you to follow. Keep your eyes peeled for more Halloween Tutorials from now until Halloween. If you recreate this look, send me pictures! or post them right here in the group. We all love Halloween and I know all the other ladies would love to see them as well.
Have a good day you swashbucklers! I'll see you back on Wednesday.
Until next time...
Xoxo,
Adela
