Back To The Basics: Foundation, Concealer, Contour, Blush, Highlight

Hello!

Today I will show you how I apply foundation, concealer, contour, blush, and highlight. You may not do all of these steps in your everyday routine (I know I don't) but they are nice for special occasions, when you're having photos taken, or when you're just feeling fancy! I will be using a 3-in-1 compact from IT Cosmetics. This was a kit from QVC a while back when it was a TSV (Today's Special Value). It came with this palette, the brush I use for my foundation, and some other stuff. I have gotten a ton of use out of this thing. I have seen it at Ulta too. It's definitely worth checking out.

Step 1: Foundation
This is very different and specific to your skin type. I have combination skin (not too dry or oily on the outside of my face. Oily in the T-Zone). I recently started using Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation and LOVE it! It has the right amount of coverage and controls my oily areas all day. Before I apply my foundation I apply a moisturizer and a primer, again, pick one according to your skin type.

I apply my foundation directly to my skin, dotting it all over. Then go in with a foundation brush to blend it out. Don't forget to blend into your hair line and down your neck. You don't want it to look like you're wearing a mask! Always start with a light layer, you can add another one if you want/need more coverage.

Swirl and buff until you get an even layer of foundation all over your skin...

Step 2: Concealer
My major areas of concern are my under eye areas and around my nose. I use two different concealers under my eyes. Both are Instant Age Rewind in the Brightening and Light shades. First I apply the Brightening shade in a triangle under my eyes and blend with my fingers using a gentle tapping motion. Once that is blended in, I apply the Light shade over the top. Don't drag the applicator over the brightening shade. instead dab it in the areas you need some extra coverage in a triangle shape. Now tap, tap, tap it until its blended.

(Side note: If you're wondering why one of them looks broken...that's because it is! This is the second tube of the Brightening shade that has done this to me. So I have to pull the applicator off and apply it with my finger. Don't worry, I emailed Maybelline and they already sent me a coupon for another one)

On to the nose and blemishes, I love Maybelline Fit Me concealer in light for the rest of my face. I apply this wherever I need a bit more coverage and again tap it into place with my fingers.
After I have concealed all of the areas I need to. I will set it with Elf HD Undereye Setting Powder. Yes, I use this around my nose. It's lightweight and doesn't look heavy or cakey.

Step 3: Contour
Now we will add shape back into our face. This also makes your face appear thinner and gives you a healthy glow. When contouring make sure to use a MATTE product. We do not, I repeat, DO NOT want to use a shimmery product for this.

Taking an angled brush or smaller face brush suck in your face (fish face) to see the hollow of your cheek. That is the line we want to follow with our contour. Start at your ear and blend the product back and forth, blending upwards slightly.

With more product on your brush, make a line straight down to your jawbone. Continue around your jaw bone and when you get to your chin take the color right under your chin. Be sure to add a little bit of product at a time. Otherwise, you will look like a muddy mess! Also apply the color to your temples and be sure to blend into your hairline.

Step 4: Blush
Grab a blush brush (smile awkwardly at yourself) and apply the blush to the apples of your cheeks and blend it back towards your ear. Make sure to apply it right above the contour shade. You want them to blend together slightly. If you are having a hard time blending them, use a clean fluffy brush and swirl the colors around to blend.

Step 5: Highlight
The finishing touch! The wow factor! The "did you see her highlight?!?" Clearly, someone loves this step. Taking a small fluffy brush and a small amount of product, apply the highlighter above the blush, on top of your cheek bone and bring it up around your temple. You want enough product for the sheen to be detectable but you don't want to look like a disco ball.

And you're done! Now for goodness sake, go take a selfie! haha. I didn't because, I forgot. Give me a break people! It was about 4:45 am when I did this tutorial.

I hope you enjoyed this and learned something new. What are some of your favorite Contour, Blush, and Highlight products?

Until next time...
Xoxo,
Adela

Get Ready With Me: Sick, but you'd never know it!

Welcome back! We've all had days when we're feeling under the weather and would rather stay in bed all day. Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow us to do so. I had one of these days this past weekend... it was Jr. Prom night for my nephew which means, photos with Auntie (he loved it, trust me)  Here are my tips and tricks on how to look your best when you're feeling your worst.  Let's get started... First things first, start with a clean face. Then, moisturize and prime your skin. I used a heavier moisturizer under primer because my skin tends to get very dry when I'm not feeling well.  An oldie but goodie is Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer. This is about $5 at Target or drugstores. Concealing is always important. Especially when you're sick. I applied Age Rewind under my eyes and Dream Lumi around my nose to hide extra redness. I blended them in with my fingers using light patting motions.   I evened out my complexion with two fairly recent products...

But if you are short on time and want to save some cash why not do it at home? Today I'll share my at home pedicure routine. I do this year round (Once a month in the winter. Twice a month in the spring/summer). Let's get started... If not, you can find most of them at your local dollar store.  Step 1. Remove old polish. This is the polish remover I use. Any brand will work. Step...

I went shopping!

Hello again, Let's be honest, we all love to see what others buy. I know I do! I've picked up some new beauty products and I thought I'd share them with you. This is several trips/purchases put together in one post. Grab a snack and some iced tea. It's going to be a long one!  Here are the goods. Some are repurchases, some are new. I can't wait to dig into these babies! I'll say a bit about each product.  Covergirl Clump Crusher- I've been a long time fan of Covergirl mascaras. Clump Crusher has made it's way into my favorite spot. It has a plastic brush with a curve to it so it easily reaches all of the lashes. As the name implies it doesn't clump AT ALL! I didn't believe it till I tried it and now I alway have a tube of this. I stock up when it's buy one get one 50% off.  I ordered the next three products off Hautelook a few weeks ago. This is the foundation I always use. It's several shades swirled together as a liquid then baked on a ...
