Hello and Happy Wednesday to you all!
Today I will be sharing random little tricks (or hacks) I use around the house to get rid of unwanted guests and a few other things. They're simple things that I do but they might be things you don't know about.
In no particular order...
1) Get rid of pesky fruit flies- NATURALLY!
Ugggh! Nothing bothers me more than pests in my house! Flies, spiders, ants. ANYTHING that isn't welcome! We eat a ton of fruit and therefore we deal with fruit flies on a regular basis. I didn't know how to get rid of them so I decided to look it up online. I believe I found this on Pinterest.
~Get a small glass container, preferably a bowl.
~Fill it with about 1 teaspoon of Balsamic or Apple Cider Vinegar. The fruit flies are attracted to the fermented smell- which is why they go after over ripe fruit or peels.
~Add about 1 teaspoon of water (from the faucet)
~Add in a couple of drops of dish soap. I use about 3-4
~Gently mix until it gets bubbly. You don't want it so bubbly that it's like a mini vinegar bubble bath for them. But just slightly bubbly
~Set out near the fruit or where ever you are seeing them
Within minutes they are GONE!!! Yay. Now, it is sad because they land in it and die but I'd rather them be in there than flying in my face every 5 seconds. Adela =1, Fruit Flies = 0
2) Get rid of ants- kinda naturally
I had an ant problem a week or so ago. They weren't coming in after food. They were coming in after the water in and around our kitchen sink. NOT OK!
A quick way I have found to stop them in their tracks is by using Windex to spray down their trail and then you can easily wipe them up with paper towels.
Then this is very important and rather sneaky of these ants...they leave a scent trail behind. That is why they keep coming back in the same place! After you have cleaned up your trail. Take a cloth, I use a microfiber dish towel and wipe down the area with distilled vinegar. It doesn't smell the greatest, but it works! I had been fighting ants for days! One swipe of distilled vinegar and they were gone!
3) Get rid of spiders- Naturally
Our yard is full of trees, plants, grass, flowers that spiders just looooove to creep around in. When they decide to be adventurous they make their creepy little way into my house. Big mistake! I have become quite the spider slayer. I spray around the perimeter of our house with a "kill any and all kinds of bugs" spray. I don't want those chemicals in our house so I go for a more natural approach to ward off would be intruders with none other than Peppermint Oil and water. yep, That's it. I mix a good amount of peppermint essential oil in with water, you want it to smell very minty. I put the mix in a spray bottle and spray around all the windows, door jams, and any other spot you think they might come in. They hate the smell of it so it keeps them away.
Ok, now that all of the pest related tips are done. Let's move on to something less creepy and crawly.
4) Getting mildew smell out of towels
I had to figure this one out when I forgot a load of towels in the washer. Eww! I re-washed them but they still smelled SO bad when we used them to dry off. Gross!
This worked like a charm...
Wash towels in HOT water with 1 cup of distilled vinegar and 1/2 cup of vinegar. Smell is gone!
5) Remove hard water stains from faucets
You wont believe how easy this is. Cut a lemon in half and scrub your faucet, shower handle, or anything metal with it and the spots are gone!
I hope you found these tricks helpful.
