Brows: Grooming, Shaping, Filling In

Hello again,
First off, I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your love and support during my absence last week. For those of you that don't know, my Mom had knee replacement surgery and I was giving that my attention. Thankfully she is doing better than expected and pain is very minimal. Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes, she and I (and the entire Adela Told Me family) appreciate it.

On to the post! I have been growing my eye brows out for months now to get them good and unruly for this post. You all know how much I obsess over my brows so I thought I should walk you through how I groom, shape, and fill them in.

Here we go!

These are my must have tools and products for my brows. I will walk you through each one during the tutorial. Before I begin, I want to tell you that some people groom and shape when their brows are filled in so they don't get out of control and over pluck. I know the brow shape I am going for so I am able to do this without having them filled in. If you're new to shaping your brows then I suggest filling your brows in before grooming and shaping at least until you're familiar with your shape.

I found these tweezers at TJMaxx and they are the best tweezers I've ever had! They're super sharp and precise, they can grab the finest of brow hairs.
I start off by tweezing the stray hairs under the brow. I don't have many there but the ones that are there are dark so they have to go!

Then I pluck the center aka uni-brow. Thankfully, most of the hair here is peach fuzz but I pluck them anyway.

I pluck the top last because again, I don't have that much to pluck up there but anything that has made itself a home has to go!

Now for the part that freaks everyone out... the trimming part! (queue girl screaming from horror movie) haha! I use a bow brush and brush my hairs straight up. This makes the longer ones stand out and easier to trim. Note: I ONLY trim the ones at the inner part of the brow. The ones at the tail of the brow lay down so they don't need trimming.

Once they're brushed up I take a tiny pair of scissors and trim the hairs at the inner corner of my brow. This way when I fill them in they stay in a good position.

This is how my brows look when I am done. See how sparse they are when they are not filled in?! I know they're not horrible but I prefer them filled in. So let's get to that part!

My old friend Brow Fix is my go to brow product. I have a pomade too, which I do like but I use this 95% of the time so I will show this today.

This is the brush I use for my brows. Funny story about this brush, I HATED this brush when I first got it and then all of a sudden I loved it and now I can't use anything else. Weird!

I start with the darkest color in the kit. I draw a line on the bottom of the brow, starting at the tail and working my way in. I start at the tail because I like the darkest part of my brow to be at the end and get lighter as it gets to the inner part.

Using the dark color again. I do the same to the top of my brow and then fill it in.

Here I am bringing the darkest color in but I am not dipping my brush back in to the product. I am only using what is left on the brush as I get to the inner part of the brow.

I use the lightest color for the inner part of the brow. I blend this color into the dark color. Then I use the other end of the brush to brush through my brows and blend the color to make it look more natural.

Sometimes I can get brow powder on my skin from brushing them out so I go around them with this brush to wipe away any excess product.

I apply a clear brow gel to hold them in place.

And we are done! Let's do a comparison shall we???

Hang on to your brows, girls...This is a HUGE difference!

See I told ya! Now you can see why I have to fill my brows in when I do my makeup. It really frames my face and really enhances my makeup look. If you are new to brows, please remember that brows are never going to match. Just like winged liner (grr!). You want them to get as close as possible but don't fret over making them perfect because it isn't going to happen. Well, maybe if you use a stencil but we won't get into that!

I hope you found this post helpful. Please let me know what some of your favorite brow products are.

Until next time...
Xoxo,
Adela

Get Ready With Me: Sick, but you'd never know it!

Welcome back! We've all had days when we're feeling under the weather and would rather stay in bed all day. Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow us to do so. I had one of these days this past weekend... it was Jr. Prom night for my nephew which means, photos with Auntie (he loved it, trust me)  Here are my tips and tricks on how to look your best when you're feeling your worst.  Let's get started... First things first, start with a clean face. Then, moisturize and prime your skin. I used a heavier moisturizer under primer because my skin tends to get very dry when I'm not feeling well.  An oldie but goodie is Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer. This is about $5 at Target or drugstores. Concealing is always important. Especially when you're sick. I applied Age Rewind under my eyes and Dream Lumi around my nose to hide extra redness. I blended them in with my fingers using light patting motions.   I evened out my complexion with two fairly recent products...

Adela's at home pedicure

Welcome back! Spring is officially here which means warmer weather and cute sandals! It's time to get those tootsies back in shape! Now I can admit, a professional pedicure can be nice. But if you are short on time and want to save some cash why not do it at home? Today I'll share my at home pedicure routine. I do this year round (Once a month in the winter. Twice a month in the spring/summer). Let's get started... Here are the supplies you'll need: A towel Nail Polish remover Cotton balls Sugar scrub Bath Salts  Lotion Manicure kit Cuticle oil Cuticle remover  Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle Nail file Buffer Pumice stone  Correcting pen Orange stick Clippers Cuticle clippers Base coat Top coat Polish of your choice  Large bowl to soak your feet I know that seems like a lot, you probably already have these items. If not, you can find most of them at your local dollar store.  Step 1. Remove old polish. This is the polish remover I use. Any brand will work. Step...

I went shopping!

Hello again, Let's be honest, we all love to see what others buy. I know I do! I've picked up some new beauty products and I thought I'd share them with you. This is several trips/purchases put together in one post. Grab a snack and some iced tea. It's going to be a long one!  Here are the goods. Some are repurchases, some are new. I can't wait to dig into these babies! I'll say a bit about each product.  Covergirl Clump Crusher- I've been a long time fan of Covergirl mascaras. Clump Crusher has made it's way into my favorite spot. It has a plastic brush with a curve to it so it easily reaches all of the lashes. As the name implies it doesn't clump AT ALL! I didn't believe it till I tried it and now I alway have a tube of this. I stock up when it's buy one get one 50% off.  I ordered the next three products off Hautelook a few weeks ago. This is the foundation I always use. It's several shades swirled together as a liquid then baked on a ...
