Back to The Basics: False Eyelashes

Hey there,

Let's talk some lash! I know a lot of people are intimidated by false lashes. Why? Because they're hard to get on, they're uncomfortable, you just don't know what you're doing. If any of those sound like something you'd say then this post is for you!

Grab your note pad, this is a good one!

Picking the right lashes for you~
Decide what look you're going for...
Natural (What mascara is that? Your lashes look great!)
Edgy (Watch out! She means business with her spikey/pointy lashes)
Glamorous (Ooh-la-la! Aren't you fancy?!)
Drag Queen (Man! (Literally) Your lashes are over the top!) haha!

If you are new to falsies (like, have never tried them before) I suggest trying the individual lashes or half lash. With these you still get the look of a fuller lash without the heavy feeling false lashes can give.

Trimming and Sizing Lashes~
Now that you've picked your style, you need to prep your lashes for application.
Remove the lashes from the packaging. Be gentle! You don't want to stretch or tweak the lash band.
Hold each end of the lash between your index finger and thumb. Gently manipulate the lash back and forth to loosen the stiffness of the lash band. I do this about 10 times.
Hold the lash in the middle. You can use your fingers or tweezers for this. I use my fingers.
Line the lash up with the center of your eye. You don't need glue for this step, you are doing this to see if the lash fits your eye shape correctly. If the ends need trimming I suggest trimming the inside of the lash with a small pair of scissors.
Hold the lash up to your eye again to make sure it is the proper size.

Lash Adhesive~
There are several brands of lash adhesive out there. I've used Duo in the past but now prefer Revlon lash glue. I found Duo to be very messy. Revlon is easier to use, in my opinion (this is my blog so of course this is MY opinion. haha!) Revlon comes with a brush applicator which makes for a very precise application of glue. It dries clear (they do have a black option) and is undetectable on the lid.

Applying Lashes~
Now let's put those babies on! Don't be scared. You can always remove and re-apply them if you need to.
Hold your lash in the middle. Like I said earlier, you can use fingers or tweezers for this.
Apply a thin and even line of glue to the lash band. Allow to get tacky for about 30 seconds.
Looking straight into a mirror, apply the lash to the center of your lid.
Now don't freak out and start fussing over the lash band. This is where most people get frustrated.
Allow the lash to sit in the center of our lid for a few seconds (1....2....3....4...ok go!)
NOW you can start sticking down the outer edge of the lash and then the inner corner. I use my fingers and then go back in with tweezers to make sure they're really on there!
Wasn't that easy?!
We want the lash to dry in a turned up position. To do this, blink several times on to your index finger. See how the lashes are turned up? Your eye looks more awake and full that way.
Off you go with your fancy new lashes! Don't forget to bring your lash glue and tweezers just incase you get some lifting.

Removing Lashes~
Always use an eye make-up remover to take off your lashes. For goodness sake, do not pull them off! Unless you want to rip all of your real eye lashes out. Ouch! I apply my eye make-up remover to a cotton round and let it sit on my eye for approximately 30 seconds. Most of the time my lash comes off on the cotton round when I pull it away from my eye. If not, I GENTLY pull the end of my lash and it slips right off.

Reusing Lashes~
You can reuse false lashes. I get about 4-5 uses out of mine (drugstore brands). All I do is gently clean the lashes with eye make-up remover or a cleansing towelette. Place your lashes back in the container and save them for next time.

I hope this answered all of your questions about false lashes. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

Until next time...
Xoxo,
Adela

Get Ready With Me: Sick, but you'd never know it!

Welcome back! We've all had days when we're feeling under the weather and would rather stay in bed all day. Unfortunately, life doesn't always allow us to do so. I had one of these days this past weekend... it was Jr. Prom night for my nephew which means, photos with Auntie (he loved it, trust me)  Here are my tips and tricks on how to look your best when you're feeling your worst.  Let's get started... First things first, start with a clean face. Then, moisturize and prime your skin. I used a heavier moisturizer under primer because my skin tends to get very dry when I'm not feeling well.  An oldie but goodie is Rimmel Fix & Perfect Pro Primer. This is about $5 at Target or drugstores. Concealing is always important. Especially when you're sick. I applied Age Rewind under my eyes and Dream Lumi around my nose to hide extra redness. I blended them in with my fingers using light patting motions.   I evened out my complexion with two fairly recent products...

Adela's at home pedicure

Welcome back! Spring is officially here which means warmer weather and cute sandals! It's time to get those tootsies back in shape! Now I can admit, a professional pedicure can be nice. But if you are short on time and want to save some cash why not do it at home? Today I'll share my at home pedicure routine. I do this year round (Once a month in the winter. Twice a month in the spring/summer). Let's get started... Here are the supplies you'll need: A towel Nail Polish remover Cotton balls Sugar scrub Bath Salts  Lotion Manicure kit Cuticle oil Cuticle remover  Rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle Nail file Buffer Pumice stone  Correcting pen Orange stick Clippers Cuticle clippers Base coat Top coat Polish of your choice  Large bowl to soak your feet I know that seems like a lot, you probably already have these items. If not, you can find most of them at your local dollar store.  Step 1. Remove old polish. This is the polish remover I use. Any brand will work. Step...

I went shopping!

Hello again, Let's be honest, we all love to see what others buy. I know I do! I've picked up some new beauty products and I thought I'd share them with you. This is several trips/purchases put together in one post. Grab a snack and some iced tea. It's going to be a long one!  Here are the goods. Some are repurchases, some are new. I can't wait to dig into these babies! I'll say a bit about each product.  Covergirl Clump Crusher- I've been a long time fan of Covergirl mascaras. Clump Crusher has made it's way into my favorite spot. It has a plastic brush with a curve to it so it easily reaches all of the lashes. As the name implies it doesn't clump AT ALL! I didn't believe it till I tried it and now I alway have a tube of this. I stock up when it's buy one get one 50% off.  I ordered the next three products off Hautelook a few weeks ago. This is the foundation I always use. It's several shades swirled together as a liquid then baked on a ...
